Member Spotlight: Jerry L. Holmes, Selma Alabama AmeriCorps Program

Meet Jerry L. Holmes, Tutor, currently serving at the Valley Creek Community Center, a service site of the Selma AmeriCorps Program.

1. What motivated you to join AmeriCorps?

 I was motivated to join AmeriCorps because the program provides tutoring to community students who are deficient in their academic skills.

2. What would you like to get out of this service opportunity?

 I would like to have the opportunity to help students who are interested in improving their academic performance in order to gain grade-level skill mastery. 

3. What will your service focus on for the 2021-2022 program year?

During this program year, my service will focus on being patient and attentive to the needs of the students. Also, I will assist the students in reaching their functional grade level.

4. What are your plans after AmeriCorps? 

I am hopeful that my health will allow me to spend more time with my wife and family. We hope to be able to travel and visit different sites in and outside of the country.
