How many members serve at this site? One member serves at this site. What is your organizations goal at this site? The goal of this site is to improve the quality of life and empower individuals and families of Houston and surrounding counties, by providing coordinated, comprehensive, community based and accessible support service focused on crisis prevention. What is something exciting that has happen at the site? Alfred Saliba Family Service celebrated 22 years of service to the community. Also, they established new partnerships that will allow for growth in multiple programs at the site.

How many members are serving at this site? There are two AmeriCorps members serving at this site. What is your organizations goal at this site? The goal of this site is to pursue learning, to apply learning to life and to contribute positively to their communities. What is something excited that has happened at this site? The school is really buzzing because of the construction of six new class rooms on campus that will open up in August of 2017. AmeriCorps member LaQuanda Smith was selected by the faculty for the "You Make a Difference Award."

How many members are serving at this site? We have one member-Kayla Jackson serving at Central Park Elementary. What is your organizations goal at this site? The goal of BETA is to ensure 200 urban students are proficient in mathematical and scientific concepts by year end. What is something exciting that has happened at this site? Kayla Jackson has been such an asset to Central Park Elementary; she developed a fun way for students to learn, in the fourth and fifth grade classrooms, through math manipulatives, which ultimately caused our STAR data to rise!

In fact, it was Teach For America’s presence in Greensboro, AL that introduced me to the program. SaveFirst is a free, IRS-certified tax preparation initiative offered to working families across the state. SaveFirst engages and trains college volunteers under the coordination of AmeriCorps members to provide high-quality services to combat predatory tax preparation and ensure that families are able to have their taxes done correctly and fairly.
