Member Spotlight: Leslie Revel, SWAMP AmeriCorps Member

Meet Leslie Revel, serving with Mobile Baykeepers as part of SWAMP (Strategic Watershed Awareness and Monitoring Program).

What motivated you to join AmeriCorps? I’ve always known AmeriCorps as a great opportunity to do quality work in a field of great importance, where you get to learn real world skills for the future. Mobile Baykeeper is also an organization I’ve always admired for their dedication to the environment so I was very excited about the opportunity to work at Mobile Baykeeper as an AmeriCorps Member!

What would you like to get out of this service opportunity? To learn more about Mobile Bay and the surrounding areas, to give back to the community, to learn more about the environmental non-profit sector, and to make personal connections with others in the Mobile area that care about the environment.

What will your service focus on for the 2017-18 program year? Teaching the local community about their watershed and the importance of monitoring water quality and taking care of the environment.

What are your plans after AmeriCorps? I am currently enrolled in a graduate program to obtain a Masters of Education, and after my AmeriCorps service is over, I will start my student teaching semester and then start teaching in the local schools as a secondary science teacher. I plan to teach for a few years but would like to eventually find my way back to the environmental sector.
