Member Spotlight: Ja'kirra Ward, Selma AmeriCorps Program Member

Meet Ja’kirra Ward, Half Time Member, currently serving with Payne Elementary School, a service site of the Selma AmeriCorps Program.

1. What motivated you to join AmeriCorps? I was motivated to join AmeriCorps because I wanted to be given the benefit of going back to college while learning valuable job and life skills. Also, I had a wonderful experience of serving my pervious year.

2. What would you like to get out of this service opportunity? I would like to get more professional job and training skills. This is in addition to helping students reach their academic goals.

3. What will your service focus on for the 2019-20 program year? During this program year, my service will focus on education; education with specific focus on tutoring and mentoring.

4. What are your plans after AmeriCorps? My plan is to become a Social Worker. I plan to obtain my master’s degree and to utilize what I have learned from AmeriCorps in my everyday life.

Thank you for your service, Ja'kirra!
