Member Spotlight: Zakiya Lewis, AIST Alabama AmeriCorps Program

Meet Zakiya Lewis, AIST Member, currently serving with the Greenville High School, a service site of the AmeriCorps Instructional Support Team AmeriCorps program.

1. What motivated you to join AmeriCorps?

I was motivated to join AmeriCorps because the students really motivated me to return. I enjoy helping and getting to know them all.

2. What would you like to get out of this service opportunity?

I want to learn more knowledge about becoming a teacher.

3. What will your service focus on for the 2021-2022 program year?

My service will focus on assisting school counselors and their staff encouraging students in planning class schedules. I will assist and help plan activities after-school regarding career choices, resumes, and interviews.

4. What are your plans after AmeriCorps?

After AmeriCorps, I plan on finishing college and becoming a Kindergarten Teacher.
