Member Spotlight: Jamila Gray, Building Communities, Bettering Lives Member

Meet Jamila Gray, currently serving as After School Enrichment Program Specialist with the YWCA After School Enrichment Program (ASEP), a service site of the Building Communities, Bettering Lives AmeriCorps program.

1. What motivated you to join AmeriCorps? The impact AmeriCorps has on positivity towards homelessness, helping to rebuild communities after a disaster, also to learn how to tackle different problems in an impactful way.

2. What would you like to get out of this service opportunity? I would like to get an opportunity to become more confident in ways to approach a problem that may have seemed to not be as approachable before.

3. What will your service focus on for the 2019-20 program year? During this program year, my service will focus on tutoring and supervising children throughout the school year as well as during the summer program. I will be planning and implementing activities for children 5-14 years of age.

4. What are your plans after AmeriCorps? My plans after AmeriCorps will be to, hopefully, get a mentor through the program involving legal aide, hopefully get a position from any local attorney’s office.

Thank you for your service, Jamila!
