Member Spotlight: Brandy McKinney, STEM Program Assistant

Meet Brandy McKinney, she serves with the Building Communities, Bettering Lives AmeriCorps program with partnering agency Girls Inc.

What motivated you to join AmeriCorps? I was looking for a way to change the direction of my career and help myself become a better person in the process. I’ve always been a steward in my community but AmeriCorps helped me see what other opportunities are available in non-profit.

What would you like to get out of this service opportunity? I would like to make connections with people who are like minded in community service.

What will your service focus on for the 2017-18 program year? Encouraging middle and high school aged girls to partake in STEM education or STEM careers.

What are your plans after AmeriCorps? I’m not sure yet, I might do another year or continue my education in engineering.
