Member Spotlight: Caleb LaRue, Red Rock Trail Assistant

Meet Caleb LaRue, he serves with the Building Communities, Bettering Lives AmeriCorps program at the Freshwater Land Trust.

What motivated you to join AmeriCorps? Service is important to me, and AmeriCorps offers an opportunity to gain professional experience while continuing a tradition of service. As a Peace

Corps Volunteer, I was able to help people in another country. Now as an AmeriCorps member I am able to help a nonprofit in a city that I consider to be home.

What would you like to get out of this service opportunity? I am optimistic that this is a service position in which I can gain experience about environmental stewardship that may be beneficial to future employment opportunities.

What will your service focus on for the 2017-18 program year? As the Red Rock Trail Assistant, my role in the coming year will be focused on promoting the Red Rock Trail System in Jefferson County. I am hoping to provide outreach that will reach local populations and convince more people to use the trail system for exercise or commuting.

What are your plans after AmeriCorps? This year with Freshwater Land Trust is an opportunity for me to decide if my future career is going to be focused more in the environmental or in the mental health sector. If I decide to go more into environmental work than my plan would be to find a job in the field. If I decide to return to mental health, than I will probably end up getting a graduate degree. This year is the year of decisions for me.
