The Housing Assistance Council is prepared to provide information and referral
services to help rural communities to identify the tools and resources needed to recover from Hurricane Katrina. For more information go to www.ruralhome.org and click on the red box that says Hurricane Katrina Relief Resources. Also, www.ruralhome.org has a publication "Picking up the Pieces: Restoring Rural Housing and Communities After Hurricane Katrina" guide which can be downloaded and printed. This publication has a lot of useful information for individuals who have been impacted by Katrina. This is a 43 page guide that offers Home Repair Assistance, Rental Assistance, Permanent Housing, etc.
In an effort to help those who lost their homes due to Hurricane Katrina find temporary housing, a website has been developed to post available housing or rental property for hurricane victims. Go to www.hurricanehousing.net for more information.

For information about a software package from United Way called Volunteer Solutions, which is designed to help United Ways and Volunteer Centers affected by Hurricane Katrina, please email sales@volunteersolutions.org. Volunteer Solutions can match volunteers with the needs of agencies in the affected areas.
HURRICANE HELP FOR SCHOOLS The U.S. Department of Education has set up a Web page Hurricane Help for Schools that will serve as a clearinghouse of resources for Americans who want to help students displaced by the hurricane. The Web page is a forum where schools, companies and organizations across the country can come together and work to help students displaced by the hurricane. Companies and organizations can respond to the needs of students and send resources directly to them, and schools will be able to directly contact the companies and organizations offering help.

On September 29, Legal Services Alabama launched a statewide disaster hotline network that will provide long-term free civil legal services for eligible victims of the recent hurricanes.
