VISTA Disaster Response and Recovery Team
Year 03

Rita Smith

“I am originally from Connellsville, Pennsylvania. I graduated from Washington and Jefferson College in May of 2006. I decided to service as a VISTA in Montgomery because I felt that there was a lot of work to be done in disaster response and recovery. Hopefully I can make a difference and have a memorable year.”

Charlie Blazevich

I am a native of Arlington Heights, Illinois and am a recent graduate of Augustana College (Illinois) with a degree in Geography.  I will be working as an AmeriCorps *VISTA member in the Governor’s Office of Faith Based and Community Initiatives, working to encourage new and continue current preparedness efforts throughout the state.  It is an exciting prospect to be working through such a multifaceted organization to promote service and support for our local communities.

Adam Ferguson

I am from Williamsburg, Virginia and graduated from James Madison University in 2004 with a degree in History. I worked in Colonial Williamsburg's John D. Rockefeller Research Library for a year before serving as an English teacher in Turkmenistan with Peace Corps. I will work in the Governor's Office of Faith-Based and Community Initiatives to increase the capacity, integration, and knowledge of homeless service providers across the State of Alabama.

"I believe one of the most effective ways government can help those in need is to help charities, faith-based organizations and community groups that are working every day to transform lives with acts of compassion. Government must stand with them and be on their side as they reach out to hurting neighbors in desperate need of our help.”
