Alabama Communities for Education (ACE)
A young
person drops out of school every twenty-six seconds
totaling more than one million students each year.
A student’s decision to drop out of school affects us
all. High school dropouts are more likely to be
unemployed, earn lower wages, have high rates of public
assistance, and are more likely to be single parents and
have children at a younger age. Last year in
Alabama 5,447 high school students dropped out.
In an
effort to help keep students in school, the Governor’s
Office of Faith-Based and Community Initiatives is
partnering with the Alabama State Department of
Education to find solutions to this growing problem.
The GFBCI developed Alabama Communities for Education
(ACE) to assist schools in providing wraparound support
to at-risk students. ACE helps facilitate
relationships between schools and faith-based/
community-based organizations. These organizations
provide the added support that at-risk students need.
ACE is currently being piloted in four school systems:
Butler County, Montgomery County, Russell County, and
Walker County. If you would like more information
about ACE, please contact Jessica Fair at
Jessica.Fair@ServeAlabama.gov.
