CDC Guidance for Hurricane Katrina Response

The CDC has published several documents related to guidance for those responding to Hurricane Katrina. This includes immunizations for responders, infection control measures for shelters, and important information for those working in clean-up: http://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/preview/mmwrhtml/mm5435a5.htm

There is also a hurricane evacuee Medical Intake Form that can be used to assess and triage evacuees coming into shelters to determine if they have additional medical needs: http://www.bt.cdc.gov/disasters/hurricanes/katrina/evacueeform.asp

To coordinate the medical assistance offered by physicians, nurses and other health care professionals, the U.S. Dept. of Health and Human Services is now managing this national medical relief effort.

Physicians and other medical professionals with any state license who can commit to short-term, long-term or rotating coverage are urgently needed in Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Florida and Texas.

HHS has contracted with JCNationwide for this effort. Please call (800) 272-2707 if you can be of assistance.

Visit the AMA Web site  for updates on how you can get involved.
