Be Ready Day WHEREAS, the US Department of Homeland Security has proclaimed September 2006 as National Preparedness Month; and WHEREAS, the great State of Alabama recognizes the need for our state and its citizens to be informed, be involved, and be ready for any natural disaster, man-made disaster or terrorist act; and WHEREAS, Be Ready Day, a partnership between the Governor’s Office of Faith-Based and Community Initiatives and the Alabama Department of Homeland Security, was established in 2004 to promote individual, family, and community preparedness, and demonstrate the response capabilities of the State; and WHEREAS, the Inaugural Session of Be Ready Camp, an educational program for youth that focuses on emergency preparedness and response training, was held September 11 through 14, 2006, at the U.S. Space Rocket Center, Huntsville, Alabama; and WHEREAS, Citizen Corps is the ongoing citizen preparedness initiative for the State of Alabama that prepares citizens through training, awareness and education to protect individuals and communities against future disasters; and NOW, THEREFORE, I, Bob Riley, Governor of Alabama, do hereby proclaim September 14th, as Be Ready Day in the State of Alabama.
