  What is AmeriCorps?

AmeriCorps is the "domestic Peace Corps" where thousands of Americans, both young and old, are making a difference in the community through service in exchange for assistance financing their higher education or repaying existing or future student loans. AmeriCorps seeks to better communities in America through service that helps to solve community problems in education, public safety, environment, homeland security and other human needs.

AmeriCorps brings together Americans of all ages and backgrounds in the common effort to improve our communities. AmeriCorps also enhances members’ educational opportunities, job experience, and life skills. AmeriCorps strengthens communities by serving through local nonprofits, schools, religious organizations, and other groups, these citizens tutor and mentor children, coordinate after-school programs, organize community activities, clean parks, and accomplish other goals to improve our communities.
